Hildesheim Treasure

  • The Hildesheim Treasure is a Roman Hoard consisting of a collection of 70 Solid Silver Roman Vessels for eating and drinking that dates from the first century CE.
  • The Treasure is now held in the Antikensammlung section of the Altes Museum in Berlin, Germany.

History

  • The Treasure was unearthed by Prussian soldiers in 1868 near the town of Hildesheim.
  • The Treasure is either spoils of war or possibly the dinner service of the Roman Commander Varus.
