Juxtaposition

  • Juxtaposition refers to when two opposite things or characters are placed side by side to highlight their differences.

Antithesis and Oxymoron

  • Juxtaposition is similar to Antithesis and Oxymoron, except that it is a Literary device and not part of grammatical structure.
  • For example, in literature, Juxtaposition is used to contrast two characters or their backgrounds or city life against life in the countryside.
  • In images, Juxtaposition would be a contrast between two ideas portrayed by different characters in the same picture.
