Latin League

  • The Latin League existed from the 7th century BCE to 338 BCE and was formed as a defensive league against the Etruscans.
  • It was an association of 30 towns and cities in Latium, Southern Italy, which did not include Rome.

History

  • Alba Longa was the leading city.
  • The last King of Rome, Tarquinius Superbus (535-495 BCE), formed a military alliance with the Latin League.
  • In 493 BCE the new Roman Republic also formed a military alliance with the Latin League.
  • The Latin War (340-338 BCE), ended with victory for Rome and the absorption of the League into the Roman Republic.
