Lembos

  • The Lembos was a type of Galley, with between 16-50 oars in a single bank, and a mast. It was used for reconnaissance, communications and Troop movements as it could carry up to 50 soldiers in addition to the rowers.
  • It was first used by the Pirates of Illyria and then copied by Philip V of Macedon during the First Macedonian War (214-205 BCE). Later it was by the Roman Navy in their river fleets.
