Livy

  • Titus Livius, known as Livy (c.59 BCE – 17 CE), was a Roman Historian.
  • He is famed for his great history of Rome, ‘ab urbe condita libri’, which consisted of 142 books.

  • ‘Ab urbe condita libri’
    • meaning the history book ‘from the founding of the city’ (of Rome).
    • Originally written in 142 books. Only 35 books have survived.
    • It is complete history of Rome from the first Roman King and founding of Rome in 753 BCE until the first Roman Emperor, Augustus (31 BCE), ending in 9 BCE.
