Lunt Roman Fort

  • Lunt Roman Fort is a modern reconstruction located near the junction of the Fosse Way and Watling Street at Baginton, 4 miles (6.5km) from Coventry, in the County of Warwickshire.
  • The original Fort was constructed in c. 60 CE during Boudicca's Revolt but its name remains unknown.

History

  • Lunt Roman Fort is a rare example of a prefabricated Roman Fort.
  • The Timber sections were cut and prepared in Gaul, then shipped over and assembled on the Site.
  • The Fort is not the standard playing card shape.

Gyrus

  • It holds the only known ‘Gyrus’, a circular arena, in the Roman Empire.
  • The Gyrus may have been used for training horses.
