Lycaonia

  • Lycaonia was a region in Asia Minor (Turkey) that consisted of an elevated plateau 3,300 ft (1000m) above sea level.
  • It was bordered by Cappadocia, Galatia, Phrygia and Pisidia and to the south, Cilicia.

History

  • A natural road crosses the region from Ephesus to the Cilician Gates and cities developed along it.
  • Its capital city was considered to be Konya (Iconium).
  • Under Roman Rule, Lycaonia was divided out and given to its neighbouring Provinces.
