- Naevius Sutorius Macro (21 BCE-38 CE) succeeded Sejanus as Praefectus Praetorio of the Praetorian Guard in 31 CE.
Biography
- Like his predecessor, he continued to conduct Treason Trials, ‘Maiestas’, against Senators and wealthy Equestrians until 34 CE.
- He became friends with Caligula (37-41 CE) and allowed his wife Eunia to conduct an affair with Caligula.
- He may have been ordered by Caligula to smother the aged Tiberias in 37 CE.
- However his friendship soon turned sour when Caligula became Emperor.
- In 38 CE, thinking he was being promoted as Prefect of Egypt, he and Eunia boarded a ship at Ostia only to be arrested and dismissed from Office. They then both committed suicide.
