- After 293 CE, Maxima Caesariensis was one of four Provinces in the Diocese of Britannia which included London. It lasted until 408 CE.
- The Province was created when the existing two Provinces of Britannia Inferior and Britannia Superior were further subdivided during the Tetrarchy of Diocletian (285-305 CE).
The Four Provinces of Britannia (293-408 CE)
- Britannia Inferior was divided into two:
- Flavia Caesariensis:
- Capital at Lindum Lincoln
- Britannia Secunda:
- Capital at Eburacum York
- Flavia Caesariensis:
- Britannia Superior was divided into two:
- Britannia Prima:
- Capital at Corinium Dobunnorum Cirencester (uncertain). Largest of the four, it included Wales and the West country.
- Maxima Caesariensis:

- There may have been a fifth Province of Britannia called Valentia
