Mentor

  • A Mentor is an everyday expression, meaning a person who acts as an advisor imparting wisdom to someone who is inexperienced or requires guidance.

Origin

  • In Greek Mythology, Mentor was an old friend of Odysseus, who was placed in charge of his son, Telemachus, whilst he went away on the Trojan War.
  • Athena then took the form of the Mentor, the friendly adviser, to counsel Telemachus to ignore his mother Penelope’s Suitors and go about finding his missing Father, Odysseus.
