Metaphor

  • A metaphor is a direct comparison between two things using ‘is’ or ‘was’.
  • For example, ‘The night sky was a carpet of stars’ or ‘The moon is a balloon’.

Simile

  • Whereas a Simile is an indirect comparison using the words ‘like’ or ‘as’.
  • For example, ‘He was a strong as an ox’ or ‘It went down like a lead balloon.’
