Mitla Pass

• The Mitla Pass is located in the Sinai Peninsular of Egypt.
• It has an Altitude of 1,570 ft (580 m) and a Length of 20 miles (32 km).

Strategic Location

• It lies 31 miles (50 km) east of Suez, and connects the King's Highway to Aqaba.
• Travellers between Egypt and the Sinai Peninsular must still go through this pass.

Roman Road

• Via Traiana Nova followed the route of the old King's Highway, and was rebuilt by Trajan between 111-115 CE.
• The road ran from Heliopolis in Egypt, to Palmyra in Syria, and on to the Euphrates.
• The road passed through Aqaba and Petra and was used by Camel Caravans.
