  • Nantes is a port and cathedral city located on the River Loire in the Pays de la Loire Region of northwestern France.
  • It was the Gallo-Roman city of Condevincum, capital of the Namnetes Gallic Tribe in the Province of Gallia Lugdunensis.

History

  • It was renamed ‘Portus Namnetum’ in the third century CE, and a Roman Wall was built around the city to defend it against Saxon Invasions.
