- Noric steel came from Noricum (modern Austria) which became a close trading ally of the Romans.
- Noricum Steel was used in making Roman weapons and was sold from a Roman Trading Colony below the Oppidum of Magdalensburg.
Description
- It was mined from two iron ore Mountains 43 miles (70km) apart, Huttenburg in Carinthia and Eisenerz in Styria.
Gladius Roman Broadsword
- The Traditional Legionary sword, up to 2 ft 7″ (80cm) long, used during the Roman Republic and the Early Empire.
- The Legionaries wore their swords on the right, whereas the Centurions (Officers) wore their swords on the left.
- Roman Swords were manufactured in Austria using Noric steel, and also in Toledo in Iberia.
