Novaesium

• Novaesium was founded as a Roman Castrum or Fort in 16 BCE, in Germania Inferior. Novaesium was located at the confluence of the River Rhine and the River Erft.
• Today, it has become the city of Neuss, located on the opposite bank of the Rhine to Dusseldorf, in Germany.

Valetudinarium

• The Fort is the location of the only known Valetudiarium or Military Roman Hospital.

Legions

• It was occupied by the following Legions:
  • Legio XX Valeria Victrix (9-43 CE)
  • Legio XVI Gallica (43-70 CE)
