Obidos

  • Obidos is a hill top medieval town in the Centro Region of western Portugal.
  • It was the Roman town of Eburobrittium located in the Province of Lusitania.

History

  • Obidos is a medieval town with Castle, streets, squares and city walls all in a well preserved condition.
  • It is noted for its annual Medieval Market.

Obidos Aqueduct

  • In 1573 CE, Catherine of Austria, wife of King Joao III, commissioned the building of the Obidos Aqueduct, known locally as the Aqueduto de Usseira.
  • It runs for 2 miles (3km) but is not a Roman Aqueduct, although it resembles one.
