Palace of Septimius Severus

Domus Severiana or Palace of Septimius Severus, Rome
  • The Domus Severiana or Palace of Septimius Severus was located on the Palatine Hill in Rome with the other Palaces overlooking the Circus Maximus.
  • It was built by the Emperor Septimius Severus (193-211 CE) as an extension to the existing palaces.

Baths and a Water Fountain

  • At the same time Severus built the Baths of Septimius Severus, fed by a branch of the Aqua Claudia.
  • He also added a three storey water fountain with bays for statues and fountains called the Septizodium (203 CE).
