- The Palace of Augustus is a modern term for the Domus Augusti or House of Augustus which is considered to have been the main place of residence of Augustus in Rome.
- It was located on the Palatine Hill, Via dei Cerchi. It is not to be confused with the Domus Augustana which is the name for the adjacent Palace of Domitian.
Description
- The Residence consisted of two Peristyles constructed in c. 39 BCE, located on either side of a central Temple dedicated to Apollo Palatinus completed in 28 BCE.
The Site
- Excavations took place between 1865-1956, and after a Renovation Program in 2008, the structure can be visited and seen in a semi-restored condition.
