- Pausanias was a Greek Geographer (c.110-180 CE) who lived during the time of Hadrian (117-138 CE), Antoninus Pius (138-161 CE) and Marcus Aurelius (161-180 CE).
- He is noted for his travel guide to ancient Greece, written for Roman Tourists.

- He published a ‘Description of Greece’ in 10 Books in c. 160 CE.
- This was a Travel Guidebook to Ancient Greece, which was one of many guidebooks used by the Roman Upper Classes on the Roman Grand Tour.
- In it Pausanias gives a detailed description of the Greek cities, their Temples, Holy Places, Buildings, Statues and Battlefields.
