Philemon

  • Philemon (c.362-262 BCE) was an Ancient Greek Poet and Playwright from Athens.
  • He wrote in the tradition of Ancient Greek Comedy and became the main representative of the New Comedy. His great rival was Menander.

Works

  • Philemon wrote 97 works, of which 60 have survived through Roman adaptations, although some are incomplete.
  • The Roman playwright Plautus adapted two of his plays, which he renamed Mercator and Trinummus.
