Poole

  • Poole is a harbour town located to the west of Bournemouth on a large tidal basin known as Poole Harbour in Dorset.
  • It was the site of a Roman Port at Hamworthy called Moriconium.

Poole Harbour

  • Poole Harbour is either the World’s largest or second largest natural Harbour, along with Cork Harbour in Ireland and Halifax Harbour in Canada.
  • In the middle of the harbour lies Brownsea Island, a nature reserve owned by the National Trust.
  • The town and harbour of Wareham on the river Frome is accessible from Poole harbour.
