Proclus

  • Proclus Lycaeus, (8th Feb 412-17th April 485 CE) also known as ‘The Successor’, was a Greek Neoplatonist philosopher.
  • He became Head of ‘The Academy’ in Athens which was founded by Plato 800 years earlier.

Biography

  • Proclus was born in Constantinople to a noble family.
  • He studied and worked in Alexandria before eventually moving to Athens, where he became Head of the Academy founded by Plato.

  • Commentaries on the Dialogues of Plato.
  • A commentary on Euclid‘s ‘Elements of Geometry’.
