Types of Propraetorial Province
- Senatorial Propraetorial Province
- He was the Governor of either a Senatorial Propraetorial Province, who was appointed by the Roman Senate.
- Propraetorial Province
- He was the Governor of an Imperial Propraetorial Province who was appointed by the Roman Emperor.
Responsibilities
- Qualification
- He had to have previously served as a Praetor for one year.
- Local Militia
- He was the Governor of a Senatorial or Imperial Province with no Legions, but would have had control over a small militia or garrison.
- Immunity
- He was immune from Prosecution whilst he held Imperium.
- Imperium
- Legions
- However, a Governor of an Imperial Province was usually a Proconsul (in place of the Consul).
- A Frontier Province would have at least one or more Legions over which he had control.
