- The Pye Road was a Roman road between Venta Icenorum (near Norwich) and Colchester and later extended to London.
- The modern A140 runs parallel to the Pye road between Ipswich and Norwich. The A12 then continues along the Roman route between Ipswich, Colchester and London.
History
- Colchester was Britain’s first capital city under the Romans, but after Boudicca's Revolt (60 CE), the capital was moved to London.
- The road was then extended to London.
