Revolt of Julius Sacrovir

  • Julius Sacrovir was a Roman Nobleman who led an unsuccessful Gallic Revolt by the Aedui and Treveri Gallic Tribes in 21 CE.

The Revolt

  • In 21 CE, Julius Sacrovir led the Aedui and joined forces with Julius Florus, leader of the Treveri, against Rome in the area around Trier. They were hoping to rally all the Gallic Tribes behind them.
  • However, their army was confronted near the Ardennes by Julius Indus, a Noblemen of the Treveri, who eliminated his rival Julius Florus, and forced Julius Sacrovir to flee to Autun where he was killed.

Julius Indus

  • Julius Indus then re-established friendly relations between the Treveri and the Romans. The Aedui however, were massacred.
  • Julius Indus became the leader of a Cavalry Unit, the ‘Ala Gallorum Indian’ which was probably involved in the invasion of Britannia, and certainly based in Cirencester by c. 70 CE.
  • His daughter married the Procurator of Britannia, Classicianus.
