• The Rhine-Meuse-Scheldt Delta, also known as the Rhine Delta, is located in the Netherlands and is the largest river delta in Europe.
• The delta consists of the confluence of these three rivers with all their branches and islands.

Delta Works

• Between 1954-1997, the Netherlands constructed a series of dams. dykes, locks and sluices to prevent the sea from flooding the land area surrounding the delta.

Ports

• The delta is the gateway from the ocean into Germany, France and Central Europe.
• Rotterdam, Antwerp and Vlissingen are the major ports on the delta.
