River Severn

  • The River Severn is the longest river in Britain with a length of 220 miles (354km) and was known to the Romans as Sabrina.
  • It rises in the Cambrian Mountains in Wales and passes through Shrewsbury, Worcester, Tewkesbury and Gloucester, before reaching the Severn Estuary and discharging into the Bristol Channel.

Severn Bore

  • The Severn Bore is a surge wave on the River Severn that is produced by the incoming tide.
  • It occurs on 130 days, and appears twice on those days, coinciding with days after the full and new moons.
