• An eternal fire burned in the Sacred Hearth in the Temple of Vesta.
• Vesta was the Goddess of the Hearth and the Home, and if the fire went out, the Romans believed disaster would follow.

Vestal Virgins

• The Vestal Virgins were a group of six Priestesses who managed the Sacred Fire in the Temple of Vesta and were a powerful force in the Roman State and Roman Culture.
