- The Roman Emperor’s Slaves and Freedmen were known as the ‘Familia Caesaris’.
- Imperial Slaves were different from other Slaves. They could expect to be awarded Manumissio and continue their career as Imperial Freedmen.
Familia Caesaris
- The ‘Familia Caesaris’ meaning ‘Family of the Emperor’ was divided into two categories:

- They conducted the business of running the Palaces.
- The Imperial Secretariat:
- The Administration of the Roman Empire was left to be done by Roman Slaves who acted as clerks, managers and technicians.
- They administered the Roman Civil Service.
- They administered the Roman Military Services. But they were forbidden to enrol either in the Legions or the Navy on punishment of Death. However, they did act as Quartermasters for both Services.
