Saturn

  • In Roman Mythology, Saturn was the Roman God of Wealth and Agriculture, associated with the Greek God Cronus and celebrated by the Festival of Saturnalia.
  • In Roman Astronomy, Saturn was one of the Wandering stars, the second largest planet in the Solar System after Jupiter.

Temple of Saturn

  • The Temple of Saturn was built by the last King of Rome, Tarquinius Superbus in c. 497 BCE. It was the State Treasury of Rome, the Aerarium.
  • It was then completely rebuilt in 42 BCE and again in 360 CE.
  • The Ruins, with eight pillars of the facade, stand at the base of the Capitoline Hill on the Forum Romanum.
