Shangri-La

  • Shangri-La is a fictional Himalayan Utopia invented by the British Novelist James Hilton in his book, Lost Horizon (1933).
  • It is located in a valley in the western Kunglung Mountains overlooked by a Monastery.

Tibetan Scriptures

  • The Ancient Tibetan Scriptures refer to seven ‘Nghe Beyul Khembalung’.
  • ‘Bayuls’ are hidden valleys created by Padmasambhava in the 8th century BCE, as a refuge for Buddhists, according to the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism.
