Description
- It is a flat topped circular mound, constructed in the Bronze Age around 2,450 BCE.
- It is located in an area of Bronze Age Monuments, including Avebury and Stonehenge.
Similarity to Egyptian Pyramids
- Silbury Hill has a similar size and volume to the Pyramids in Egypt.
- Although the mound is covered in grass today, excavations have shown that underneath the earth is a cone shaped step-pyramid made of chalk and having ten sides.
- It would originally have appeared as a shining white edifice.
Function
- Silbury Hill has been found not to contain any Burials, and its purpose is the subject of debate.
