Simile

  • A Simile is an indirect comparison using the words ‘like’ or ‘as’.
  • For example: He was a strong as an ox. Or It went down like a lead balloon.

Metaphor

  • A Simile differs from a Metaphor which is a direct comparison between two things using ‘is’ or ‘was’.
  • For example, ‘The night sky was a carpet of stars’ or ‘The moon is a balloon’.
