Sistine Chapel

  • The Sistine Chapel was completed in 1481 and is located in the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City, Rome.
  • The frescoes on the Sistine Chapel Ceiling were painted by Michelangelo between 1508-1512 and are considered to be one of the greatest Works of Art in Western Civilisation.

Frescoes

  • The Chapel is famed for its frescoes on the Sistine Chapel Ceiling and The Last Judgement, painted between 1508-1541 by the Italian Renaissance painter, Michelangelo.
  • The earlier frescoes of the Life of Moses and the Life of Christ were completed in 1482 by other Renaissance painters of the Quattrocento such as Botticelli.
