Slingers

  • The Slingers in the Roman Army were Roman Auxiliaries who specialised in Slinging. The Balearic slingers held great fame.
  • They used stone or lead shot and were deadly up to a range of 380 ft (117m).

Slingshot

  • The shot was made of Lead or Stone, and shaped like a lozenge.
  • The Ashmolean Museum in Oxford has examples, one with an inscription naming the owner as Atidius Principilus (chief centurion) from c. 40 BCE.
