- Noviodunum fell to the Romans during the Gallic Wars (58-51 BCE) conducted by Julius Caesar, and it remained a Roman Province until 461 CE.

- The Kingdom of Soissons (461-486 CE), also known as the ‘Kingdom of the Romans’, was an area of Gaul between the river Somme and the Seine.
- Its Rulers, Aegidius, then his son Syagrius, managed to resist the Germanic Invasions after the the Fall of the Western Empire in 476 CE.
- They ruled the Kingdom from their capital at Soissons until 486 CE.
