Solidus


  • Roman Gold Coin
    • After 301 AD, Diocletian started to replace the Gold Aureus with the Gold Solidus worth 1000 Denarii.
    • After 312 AD, Constantine I permanently replaced the Aureus with the Solidus now worth 275,000 Denarii.
  • Since a Soldier was paid in Gold Solidus, the word came to mean a ‘Soldier’.
