- St. Augustine (13 November 354 – 28 August 430 CE), also known as Augustine of Hippo, was Bishop of Hippo Regius in Africa Proconsularis (Annaba, Algeria). He is not to be confused with St. Augustine of Canterbury (d. 604 CE).
- He is considered to be one of the four Great Church Fathers in Christianity and one of its most influential thinkers. Augustine was a contemporary of Jerome.
