Stele

• A Stele (Latin: Stela) is a large monumental edifice, made from stone or wood. A gravestone is a small Stele.
• The Stele was usually raised to commemorate an Event, such as a military victory or a Funeral and was often inscribed with writing and decoration.

  • The Rosetta Stone is a Stele written in three languages and holds the key to deciphering Egyptian Hieroglyphs. It is located in the British Museum, London.
• Code of Hammurabi
  • Written by King Hammurabi of Babylon (1792-1750 BCE) and inscribed on a seven foot high basalt stele, dating to 1754 BCE, which can be seen in the Louvre Museum, Paris.
