Thanet

  • The Isle of Thanet was called Taniatide by the Romans. It was separated from the mainland by the Wantsum Channel, which has now completed silted up, and defended by the Roman fortress at nearby Richborough.
  • Thanet is now a peninsular with the sea on three sides and has the three main seaside towns, Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs.
