Origin of the Phrase

  • Cassandra was the daughter of King Priam and Queen Hecuba of Troy, the city in Greek Mythology.
  • Cassandra tried to warn the Trojans not to bring the Wooden Horse into the city.
  • She had the gift of Prophesy but was fated never to be believed.
  • The Trojans towed the wooden horse inside the walls of Troy, and closed the gates.
  • During the night, the Greek soldiers inside the horse, emerged and opened the gates, letting the Greek army into the city, leading to the Fall of Troy.
