To open Pandora’s Box

  • To open Pandora’s Box means to release a series of problems that cannot be anticipated.
  • It is an everyday expression derived from Greek Mythology.

Pandora's Box

  • Pandora carried a Jar which she was specifically told not to open (sometimes translated as a box).
  • When Pandora lifted the lid off the jar, War, Sickness, Death and Disease were released. Too late, she closed the lid, but Hope was left behind.
