Tor Fiscale Park

  • Tor Fiscale Park, named after a 13th century CE tower called the Torre Fiscale, is located on the Via Latina between Roman Milestones III and IV.
  • It is connected by a path to the nearby Park of the Aqueducts.

Getting There

  • Location: Via dell’ Acquedotto Felice, 120, Rome.
  • Nearest Metro Stations: Lucio Sestio, Line A.

History

  • The Park forms part of the Appian Way Regional Park and was once crossed by six Roman Aqueducts including the Aqua Claudia, Aqua Marcia and the Aqua Anio Novus.
  • The Aqua Marcia was replaced by the Aqua Felice in 1586, and the Aqua Claudia was used as a quarry for new buildings elsewhere.
  • Totila, King of the Ostrogothic Kingdom, laid siege to Rome here in 537 CE, blocking access to the Via Latina and the Via Appia and cutting off the water supply by disconnecting the aqueducts.
