Trevi Fountain

Trevi Fountain, Rome
  • The Trevi Fountain is an 18th century Baroque Fountain located in front of the Palazzo Poli in Rome.
  • It was the original terminus for the ancient Roman Aqueduct, the Aqua Virgo.

  • Location: Piazza di Trevi, Rome.
  • Nearest Metro Station: Barberini, Line A.

History

  • The old Roman Aqua Virgo aqueduct was restored in 1453 by Pope Nicolas V and called the Acqua Vergine.
  • The fountain lies at the junction of three roads, the Via Poli, the Via delle Muratte and the Via dei Crociferi.
  • Work on the new fountain began in 1732 and was completed by Pannini in 1764 when it was inaugurated by Pope Clement XIII.
