Tunica

  • The Tunica was a Roman garment based on Greek clothing, and adopted by the Romans during the third century BCE.
  • It was either made from Wool, Cotton or Linen. Tunica is Latin for tunic.

Description

  • The Tunica was worn by citizens and non-citizens, and by both men and women.
  • It was often worn underneath the Toga.
  • The individual’s status was shown by its length:
    • Roman Slaves, soldiers and ordinary people wore the Tunica down to above the knee.
    • The Professions wore the Tunica down to the ankle.
