- Tyana was an ancient city strategically located 18 miles (30km) north of the Cilician Gates in the Province of Cappadocia.
- Its Ruins are located in the town of Kemerhisar, 12 miles (20km) southwest of Nigde, in the Nigde Province of Central Anatolia, in southern Turkey.
History
- Tyana was known as Tuwanuwa during the Hittite Empire (c. 1700-1200 BCE).
- Tyana and Cappadocia became a Roman Client Kingdom (between 95 BCE-14 CE)
- It was part of the Roman Province of Cappadocia with Caesarea as the capital, between 14-372 CE,
- Tyana became the capital of Cappadocia Secunda between 372-395 CE.
- After 395 CE Tyana joined the Eastern Empire.
- Tyana became a Frontier city with the Rashidun Caliphate after 637-656 CE, until it was sacked in 708 CE.

- Room 4 of the museum has artefacts on display from the Greco-Roman period which were found from excavations at Tyana.
Roman Roads

- The Pass is 60 feet (20m) wide and several hundred metres deep.
- The Road runs from Tarsus in Cilicia through this Pass in the Taurus Mountains up into into Cappadocia.

Tyana
