Uranus

• In Greek Mythology, Uranus was the son and husband of Gaia, the Mother Goddess.
• Uranus was the Sky God and father of Cronos (Saturn) and grandfather of Zeus (Jupiter).

Discovery of the Planet Uranus

• Uranus was only discovered in the eighteenth century CE by William Herschel and named Uranus by Johann Bode.
• The Greeks and Romans were only familiar with the Seven Classical Planets which were the Moon, Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.
