Valence

  • Valence is a cathedral town on the Rhone, located 3 miles (5km) south of the confluence with the river Isere and 56 miles (91km) south of Lyon, in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes Region of southeastern France.
  • It was known to the Romans as Valentia Julia, in the Province of Gallia Narbonensis. Although the city held an Amphitheatre, Theatre and Odeon within the city walls, no visible traces remain of any of these today.
