Velleius Paterculus

• Marcus Velleius Paterculus”] (c. 19 BCE-c. 31 CE) was a Roman Historian and Soldier who wrote a ‘Compendium of Roman history’ (c.1200 BCE-30 CE).
• He served as a Cavalry Prefect with Tiberius in Germania between 4-12 CE. In 7 CE he was appointed Quaestor.

• Compendium of Roman history’ or ‘Roman History’:
  • Volume I:
    • The first book deals with the Trojan War (c. 1194-1184 BCE) to the Fall of Carthage (146 BCE).
  • Volume II:
    • The second book covers the period from Tiberius Gracchus (163-133 BCE) and his brother Gaius Gracchus (154-121 BCE) to 30 CE.
