Vetus Latina

  • The Vetus Latina means ‘old latin translations’ and refers to the Latin Bible Texts used by the early Christian Church until 382 CE.
  • This was not a single Work, but a collection of Biblical texts written in Latin between c.200-382 CE.

Vulgate

  • In 382 CE, Pope Damasus I commissioned St. Jerome (347-420 CE) to revise these texts and the new version of The Bible became known as the Vulgate.
  • It is still in use by the Roman Catholic Church today.
